CHESTER GARDEN CLUB

CHESTER – The Chester Garden Club welcomed two new members, Jody Shenton and Connie Malloy, at their meeting on November 8th at the Lynn Murray Memorial Library.  President Connie Doughty led the group in The Pledge of Allegiance and conduced the meeting.  After members recited the Garden Club Prayer, Donna Stevens shared “No Matter What.” Mary Ann Wright gave the treasurer’s report.

Wright reported that she had gone to a Chester City Council meeting to request that the street department remove several large shrubs that are overtaking a large area at The Richmond Garden. The street department agreed to remove the bushes next spring.

Doughty told the group that her husband had trimmed the rose bushes at the garden.  Kim Trelaine suggested mulching the bushes over the winter to give them a good start next growing season.

Shenton will order 100 jigsaw puzzles for this year’s fundraiser which will picture the Almost Heaven/Log Cabin scene. Date of availability will be announced in local newspapers and on the Chester Garden Club Facebook Page. They will be available at The Lynn Murray Memorial Library and from any club member.

Stevens offered to donate several pieces of vintage costume jewelry to the club to sell at an upcoming fundraiser.  She will have the items ready for sale by January.

Members will meet at Arner’s on Monday, November 27th, at 11:00 to remove the fall planter decorations and add the Christmas trim. Funding was approved to buy new centerpieces to replace the snowflakes used in the past.

The Garden Club Christmas luncheon will be held at Ponderosa Golf Club on Thursday, December 7th, at 2:00 PM. Members will bring a $10 gift for the gift exchange and a $5.00 donation for the FISH organization.
