OBITUARY: GEORGE WIERSBICKI

NEW CUMBERLAND, WV – George W. Wiersbicki, 81, of New Cumberland passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at his home with his wife by his side.           

George was born in East Liverpool on September 7, 1942 a son of the late Walter J. and Sophia S.  (Anderson) Wiersbicki.  He was a graduate of Wells High School Class of 1960.  George was a veteran of the US Navy proudly serving on the USS Henry B. Wilson.  He worked in the maintenance department at Fox’s Nursing Home in Chester.  George was the owner of the former Wiersbicki Sunoco Station in Chester.  He loved reading books and was an avid Steelers, Pirates and WVU Mountaineer fan.  George was a loving husband, brother and uncle.        

Preceding George in death was his sister Patty Church.         

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, whom he married December 28, 1968, Maxine L. (Skaleski) Wiersbicki; brother Ed Wiersbicki; sister Rose Detar and her husband Lee; two nieces, whom he helped raise, Heather Nighman and Haidee Nighman and three nephews Mark Wiersbicki, Chris Wiersbicki and Erik Kratzenburg. 

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.  Evangelist Rico Brown of Virginia Avenue Church of Christ will conduct a service at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m.  Burial at Columbiana County Memorial Park where Tri State Veterans Burial Group will provide military honors. 

Immediately following the service the family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.
