The Hancock County Board of Education the efforts of high school and middle school musicians and athletes Superintendent Dan Enich praised the efforts of Band Director Wendy Zinn in the strides the young musicians were able to make on a Statewide basis.
All State musicians from Oak Glen High School were Alex Marchesi, Madelyn Thompson, Ella Paras and Alexa Shaw. Middle School musicians who attained all-state were Emily Allen, Charlie McKinnon and Chloe Thompson.
Members of the Oak Glen High School OVAC Champion Wrestling were presented with certificates lauding their achievements as were the Oak Glen Middle School BMC Champions.
In other business, the Board:
**Approved the usage of the Little Blessings pre-school bus;
**Approved administrative release for Alexandrea Burchette, substitute teacher countywide;
**Accepted the resignations of James Chappell, welding instructor, JDR; Mary Ann Petrelle, school counselor, Weirton Elementary; Michelle Cope, School Psychologist; and Donna Ferguson, athletic director/dean of students. All four are retiring.
**An assignment was approved for Joleigh Sollars as a substitute teacher countywide;
**Accepted the resignation of Ryan Wells as assistant Football coach, Oak Glen Middle;
**Approved the assignment of Jonathan Velegol, assistant girls tennis, and Marissa Galiano, Assistant Softball coaches.
**Approved for teaching in lieu of planning period were Alissa Hannah and Troy Whitaker;
**Granted a Leave of Absence for Jennifer McCoy, LPN/Aide, Oak Glen High;
**Approved 1 dock day for Haley Davis, secretary,Weirton Elementary;
**Accepted the following resignations due to retirement: William Pugh, mechanic; Robert Orr, Sr., bus operator; Billy Wiseman, bus operator; Cecelia Clark, secretary II, New Manchester; Gail Martin, Plumber II/GM; Patricia Barr, bus operator;
**Approved a resignation for Loueva Truax, substitute cook;
**Approved transfers for Kathi Eastham substitute aide, countywide to supervisory aide II-IV AM, Weirton Elementary and Colin Finch, substitute bus operator to bus operator, #227;
**Approved the following substitutes: William Pugh, bus operator; Deanna Maine, aide; and Erin Wooley, aide.
The Board is slated to meet again for a regular meeting March 25 at JDR.
