The concern of former Oak Glen High School Principal Suzan Smith when she saw students heading down the road in their cars to play softball and baseball in a cornfield spawned a germ of an idea: why not have the fields on the acreage owned by the school. And, with that Suzan Smith set out to have a baseball and softball fields located adjacent to the school. Today, the archway to the fields reads “Suzan L. Smith Fields of Dreams” and the athletes, educators and community gathered to cut the ribbon and say thank you to Smith for her efforts and her dedication to bringing the germ of an idea to fruition.
