When I saw the WV Public Service Commission ruling on Tomlinson PSD and the Newell Companies request for a waiver to bypass the advertisement of a rate increase (which provides for a public hearing if requested by a consumer), I was stunned….then angry. Why would a public utility not want to make every effort to let their customers know a rate increase was in the works,,,,especially one that is 40 percent? The wisdom of the Public Service Commission in denying that request means that a legal advertisement will run in a qualified print paper and consumers have 30 days to request a public hearing. I question the attorney fees involved in trying to get that waiver drawn up and passed by the PSC and I question the thinking of the Tomlinson and Newell boards in not wanting to make every effort to make those who will probably incur that rate increase aware of the situation.
