The city of New Cumberland and the NC Volunteers have announced the Yard of the Month winner for June. The winning yard belongs to Miriam Hess of Third Avenue. Her tidy yard is filled with flowering shrubs and perennials all along the front of the house as well as down the sides and around to the back yard. Bright pink coneflowers are the stars of her front yard, along with orange daylilies and other hardy flowers. Low-growing flowers border her walkway that leads to the street. Neighbors comment that they always see her working outside with her flowers, and her hard work shows in the beautiful displays of plants. For her efforts, Miriam received a framed certificate and a check from the city of New Cumberland. Her yard will display the Yard of the Month sign until early July when the next winner is announced. The Yard of the Month program is sponsored by the city of New Cumberland and the NC Volunteers whose goal is to promote pride in the community through beautification.
