It was a glorious day for former Hancock County Superintendent Sue Smith as she lifted the shovel and broke ground for improvements to the Suzan L. Smith Field of Dreams. The Board of Education has allocated $3 million to install new fencing, netting, lighting system and a turn system to the fields. Smith was principal of Oak Glen High School when she saw the softball and baseball team members get in their cars and travel up the road to the Gas Valley Complex due to a lack of a field on campus. Thanks to her dream and her diligent efforts to engage the community in the project, the fields became a reality.
