Norma L. Rowland of New Cumberland was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Norma passed at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh after a brief illness.
She was born on August 9, 1938, in Wellsburg West Virginia to the late Howard and Lorena Sims Waldvogel. Norma was 85 years old.Norma was a longtime employee of the Hancock County School District. First as an aide at New Manchester Elementary School, then as a secretary at Chester Junior High School, and New Manchester Elementary School before retiring as a secretary at the John D. Rockefeller Vocational Technical School. Norma was currently worshiping her Lord at the Everyday Church in East Liverpool. Earlier she was involved in all facets of the former New Cumberland Free Methodist Church including as a Sunday School Teacher, and leading prayer groups of which the children’s group was her favorite. Also, Norma was heavily involved in the Never Alone support group, founded and directed by Patti Barnabei.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Arthur E. Rowland preceded her in death.Norma’s loving family includes her children, Joyce (Kevin) Zoellers, and Matt (Tara) Rowland, both of New Cumberland, and Jason (Kayla) Rowland of Lisbon. Her sister, Patricia Fears of Indiana survives as well. She was affectionately known as Nana to her extraordinary grandchildren, Nathaniel, and Katie Zoellers, Bryan (Autumn), Chance (Kenzie), Nicholas (Logan) Rowland, Tanner (Ceirra), and Chase Crago, Daniel, and James Rowland, and Chayce and Myriah Moore, and her great-grandchildren, Dean, Clara, Mattie, Brooks, and Tristan. Also, she leaves several nieces and nephews.
Norma’s former pastor and longtime friend, Pastor Charles Thomas will conduct services at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Wednesday, July 24, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the New Cumberland Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit her family at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
