The destruction of the recently dedicated Suzan L. Smith arch welcoming sports fans to the Oak Glen baseball and softball fields hit the Oak Glen community hard. But, plans are being made to replicate the arch at no cost to the County.
Superintendent Dan Enich provided an update on the progress of the replacement at a Board meeting on Monday. He stressed that the replacement will be 100 percent covered by the contractor’s insurance. A contractor who was performing work on the stadium inadvertently caused the arch to be demolished.
A Committee to construct the archway was formed 15 years ago. The committee sold sponsorships for bricks and pavers to fund the project. Enich said that same Committee will assume responsibility for the archway replacement design and with replicating the names on the bricks.
“The historical aspect of the arch will be replicated,” said Enich, “I don’t see any issue.”
