New Cumberland will lend a helping hand to flood victims by sending much-needed supplies to them in a community wide effort to aid their neighbors in Southern States.
A coordinated effort by City Council and organizations in New Cumberland will aid flood victims of the recent hurricane. The New Cumberland Fire Department plans to make a trip to deliver supplies to victims towards the end of October. Council voted to donate $250 to the Fire Department to aid with gasoline and travel cost for those members of the Fire Department making the trip.
Donations of supplies can be brought to the City Building, Fire Department or New Cumberland VFW and the City also plans to coordinate efforts with the Chester VFW.
Council approved a restructuring of the Street Department and moved employees’ reporting location to the old city building garage on Jefferson Street and River Avenue. Two employees will be assigned to the Street Department with two employees assigned to the Water Department. A Street Department employee will be added and the City will advertise for that employee. Additional workers are being sought for the storm sewer project. A suggestion was made that since the City often has difficulty filling positions, City Clerk Tammy Jenkins contact Workforce WV to see if they have any candidates.
