- Roy Gale Presnell of Chester, WV passed on October 5, 2024, at the age of 81 after a sudden illness. Roy lived a life full of consideration and kindness toward others. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Lynn Clark Presnell, his son Benjamin Gale, of Wyndmoor, PA, his daughter Sarah Lynn of Chester WV, his grandson Deven Gale, and many nieces and nephews who looked to him as a father figure. Roy participated in many local tennis leagues and was an active runner in local and regional races, frequently placing first in his age class. He enjoyed helping younger tennis players learn the sport. Known in local churches for his uncommon singing voice, he was also well-known in his family for his holiday cookies. Roy was born on April 23, 1943, in Chicago, IL and later graduated from Mexico High School in Mexico, MO in 1961. He immediately joined the Navy and saw several tours of duty in the Mediterranean, Vietnam, and Guantanamo during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was introduced to his wife, Lynn, by her father in Chester and they later married in 1972. He retired from Columbia Gas in 1999, but, never idle, continued working until he passed. Family and friends from the community are welcome to join the family on two occasions. Viewing hours will be held Thursday, October 10 from 6-7 pm at Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester, WV. Additionally, on Friday, October 11, there will be visiting hours from 3:30-5:30pm followed by a funeral service and dinner at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Chester.
