OBITUARY: DON HYATT

Donald J. “Donnie” Hyatt, 66, of Chester, passed on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born June 12, 1958, in Barberton, OH., he was the son of the late Ernest Frank and Melissa Jane Ashby Mosser.

He loved his family and friends tremendously. He will be remembered for his fun, outgoing personality, and contagious smile. He graduated from Oak Glen High School and later retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways, where he was an equipment operator. His passions were being the caretaker of Chester City Park and working as the crossing guard for Allison Elementary School.

Donnie was a social member at the Chester VFW Post# 6450, and American Legion Post #121. He found joy in golfing, fishing, and the simple pleasure of cutting grass.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 16 years, Elaine Stewart Hyatt; son Tim Cox of Chester; daughters Jo Ann Hornick (Marc) of Humble, TX., Keisha Shimon (Eric) of Chester, and estranged daughter Jessica White; sister Brenda Hyatt of Chester; granddaughter Justina Shimon; and two friends who were like brothers, Donnie Murray and James Michael (Giro). Many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews will also miss him.

Donnie was preceded in death by his stepfather, Carl Mosser, and brother, Larry Hyatt.

The celebration of Donnie’s life, led by Rev. Rico Brown, will take place on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Arner Funeral Chapel.  Friends and family are invited to visit on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the funeral home from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM.
