Battling drug abuse among our state’s youth requires a team effort to be successful and no organization is proving that axiom better than GameChanger.
GameChanger is a student-powered substance misuse prevention movement connecting West Virginia students and the educators who care about them to build school environments which prevent student opioid and other drug use before it starts.
Joe Boczek, Executive Director, introduced a new video to the WV Press Association that tells the GameChanger story, including statistics that illustrate the program is working. Joe said, “This video is only 6 minutes and 48 seconds long, but it’s packed with information about what we do and how. It also identifies a few of our GameChangers, like Jennifer Garner, Senators Joe Manchin and Shelley Moore Capito, Governor Jim Justice and nationally famous coaches Nick Saban and Roy Williams.”
Boczek added, “To me, the most important message in the video comes from the students themselves. They tell us the program is working and they see the culture shifting in their schools. That’s why we do what we do.”
GameChanger works directly with schools to implement, monitor and sustain student peer leadership. The program is designed to educate, support and empower young West Virginians to live healthy, drug free lifestyles while preparing to be our leaders of tomorrow.
GameChanger is currently in 20 West Virginia counties, with 250 coaches and mentors and over 75,000 students. For more information, visit www.gamechangerusa.org, or contact Joe Boczek at [email protected] or (304) 816-4287.
