HANCOCK COUNTY RETIRED TEACHERS MEET

After members returned from a tour of the Weirton Area Museum, President Debra
Marino opened the regular meeting of the Hancock County Association of Retired
School Employees at noon on October 15, 2024, at Gio’s Restaurant of Weirton in
Weirton, West Virginia. Forty-seven members and one guest attended.
President Marino called the meeting to order, led the Pledge of Allegiance, and
introduced the guest, Anthony Gianni.
Vice President Earleen Jones led the Grace. The employees of Gio’s Restaurant
served lunch and were thanked.
Guest speaker: Dr. Anthony Gianni, Doctor of Physical Therapy at Trinity Hospital
in Steubenville, Ohio, gave tips on staying safe while navigating the home. A
question-and-answer period was provided with several suggestions. Marino gave
thanks for the vital information.
After reconvening the meeting, the President led the mission statement
Secretary Liz Pugh read the minutes for the regular October meeting.
Treasurer Rita Orler presented the treasury’s report.
Community Services Chairman Mishel Robinson reminded members of the
reported food collection for the Thanksgiving baskets, birthday drawings, bell
ringers for the Salvation Army, and several other activities.
The Information and Protective Services Chairman reminded members of the
Humana Insurance meeting, Breast Awareness Month, and the vote for the school
safety levy.
In Unfinished Business, Marino announced the progress on the Facebook page,
levy meetings in the county, and track volunteering hours.
Under new business, Several future SOS projects were introduced. A survey was
presented to volunteers who will be needed to deliver Halloween treats to each
Hancock County School. The WVARSE Newsletter will be sent via email or printed
for $2.00. WTRF invited the members to nominate a teacher in Hancock Schools
to win school supplies. The President presented numerous available senior
activities in the county.
50/50 Chairman Rosaly Lebec announced Rita Schmitt as the raffle winner.
Door Prize Chairman Mishel Robinson presented prizes to several members.
Marino announced that the Hancock County Senior Center in New Cumberland,
West Virginia, would host the End of the Year Celebration on November 19., 2024,
at noon. The service projects include supporting the Salvation Army with stocking
stuffers and ringing bells for donations.
Marino closed the meeting by reminding members that extra Door Prizes will be awarded to those wearing Christmas themed clothing.
