NEW CUMBERLAND COUNCIL PREPARES FOR HOLIDAYS

As the holiday season approaches, the City of New Cumberland is readying the community for Christmas. City Council learned at Monday’s meeting that the Veteran’s Banners will be taken down on November 18 and 19 to be replaced by the Christmas lights November 23. The annual Christmas parade will take place December 14 with lineup at 4 p.m. and the parade to begin at 5 p.m. The theme for this year’s parade is “Whoville” and those wishing to participate should contact Police Chief Lester Skinner or City Clerk Tammy Jenkins.

Mayor Will White reported that cameras monitoring city facilities are all updated by United Security: $1,950.00 – Fire Department; $6,176.00 to run all cameras to vac station and back to the City Buildings. The 204 N. River Ave. work is complete for a cost of $4,122.00

Council designated the last of the ARPA funds ($50,000) to cleaning the well. The funds must be expended by a time certain or returned.

Resident Ken Ashley addressed Council regarding work on his property at North Chestnut and Jackson Steet. Ashley has demolished the house which stood there and is readying the property for a storage garage. He is planning to put a fence around the property and is asking to place the fence on the right-of-way. The issue was tabled while Police Chief Lester Skinner and others take a look at what area will be affected.

In other business, Council;

**Approved monthly invoices of $171,931.84

**Accepted the resignation of J.D. Keeder from the Police Dept. and agreed to allow Keeder buy his duty weapon for $400;

**Approved Employee Appreciation checks;

**Hired Bobby Jones as a full-time street employee at $15/hr and Eric Ford as part-time labor;

**Agreed to observe Thanksgiving Friday as a holiday;

**Held the first reading of traffic related ordinances;

**Designated Nov. 24-30 as Christian Heritage Week.
