The Hancock County School Board unanimously adopted a policy dealing with the use of industrial hemp in the schools, on school property and in school buses. The policy went into effect immediately upon passage, meaning students attending class Nov. 18 were subject to the policy.
The policy prohibits the use of vapes, vape pens, carts, cart penjamin cart pens and any other device used to store and deliver a hemp based product.
A violation of this policy by a student shall be considered a Level Three Violation pursuant to WV State Board of Education Policy 4374 and violation of this policy may result in a out of school suspension for up to ten days and possible expulsion for up to years.
In other business, the Board:
** Recognized Oak Glen High Volleyball as OVAC Champs and Weir High School Girls’ Soccer OVAC Champs;
** Granted Leaves of Absences to Natalie Charlton and Natalie Simich;
**Approved Brian Mihalyo, Mary Kimberland and Philip Rigden as countywide substitute teachers;
**Laura McMillin was approved as a Mentor/Coach at Oak Glen High;
**Granted Roseanna Finney, bus operator, five dock days;
**Accepted the resignation of Gary Long, painter/groundsman in the Maintenance department. Long is retiring.;
**Katherine J. Kryz and Bethany Mercer were approved as substitute cooks;
**Permission was granted to take Weir High FBLA to Canaan Valley Resort for the Fall Leadership Conference;
**Permission was granted to take the Oak Glen Softball team to Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach in April
