Eva Maria Barr
1946-2024
Eva Maria Barr passed away peacefully in her home on November 22, 2024, surrounded by her family. Eva was born in Helmstedt Germany, and at the age of ten immigrated with her family to the US, settling in Pennsylvania. She met her husband Nicholas when she was 14 and they married shortly after high school, spending the next 6 decades together.
After raising her children, Eva, who was always passionate about learning, went back to school and obtained a degree from Geneva University. She worked as an assistant teacher at Central Valley School before finally retiring. Eva was also a deeply devoted and beloved preacher and enjoyed filling vacancies across multiple counties with the Presbyterian Church before ultimately accepting a position at Service Presbyterian Church. During her time as a preacher she touched many lives, providing counsel and support.
Eva believed that whatever you do you should do well and that was seen in all aspects of her life. She never expected perfection from anyone, but she did expect that you should do the best you could possibly do without compromise, and she imparted that wisdom to her family. She was a proud mother to Monica, Nick (Lisa) and Eric (Danielle), a proud grandmother (Justin Barr, Samantha Lafon, Laura Barr and Brandon, Jessica and Natasha Barr) and a proud great-grandmother (Owen Lafan and Wendel and Hamilton Barr), all of whom she loved dearly. Eva is also preceded in passing by her brother Klaus and sister Heidi.
We sincerely appreciate the prayers, visits and calls during Eva’s illness. They brought peace and comfort to our family. A memorial in celebration of Eva’s life will take place Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Millcreek Church located at 5005 Rt. 151, Hookstown, PA. 15050. We sincerely hope that you can join the family to share a memory, a smile, possibly a tear, and a hug. Eva’s arrangements have been entrusted to the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester, WV.
