The new administrator of the Hancock County Health Department was introduced to the Hancock County Commissioners at its Thursday, Dec. 12th meeting. Ami Arneault will take over the position held by Jackie Huff who is retiring after 20 years in the position. Arneault, who has resided in Hancock County for over 24 years, previously worked at CHANGE, Inc, and served in the military.
The President of the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center, Ed Giaccino, addressed the Commission with a request for reimbursement of expenses from FY 2022-23 and FY 2023-2024 totaling $7,000.00 for each year. The Museum is asking for reimbursement for its payments to the WV Board of Risk & Insurance Management, City of Weirton Police & Fire Fee and Mountaineer Gas.
Giaccino outlined the services and activities sponsored by the museum and noted that if the museum did not receive support he anticipates it closing in early 2026.
Commissioners made the request a matter of record.
In other business, the Commission:
**Approved a request from Circuit Court Clerk Sandy Casto to hire Deanna M. Ashcraft for a full-time Deputy Clerk. Casto noted she has money in her budget for the position;
**Agreed to allow Assessor Joe Alongi to advertise for a deputy clerk, but will require Alongi to come back to the Commission for approval to hire. the Deputy Clerk due to budgetary constraints;
**Approved to pay Floyd Schute his unused, accrued sick and/or annual leave days;
**Approved amending the 2024 and 2025 Holiday schedule;
**Approved a letter of support for a Dept. of Agriculture Spay & Neuter Grant;
**Approved all County bills in the amount of $151,723.81 and purchasing card of $10,074.00
