……….Just ten days til Christmas, but who’s counting? With each successive day, the excitement grows for little ones. Their little engines get revved up another notch with each passing day. For adults, each successive day brings another thing that must be checked off the LIST. You know the LIST of what needs to done, tended to, or simply attended. The parades in each of our towns are complete and I would say a collective sigh was heard round the county by those volunteers who delivered a bit of magic with the parades.
……..I would fancy a guess that most of the trees are trimmed and the holly is strung (or the artificial garland in my case.) Somewhere, there are people baking cookies or at least ordering them. (news flash —-add cookies to the things that are not required for Christmas to arrive according to the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who and me ]
……..Thanks to amazon, the gifts are all bought and have either been delivered or are on their way. And, still we have ten days to .relax? Enjoy the season? Ruminate about what or who we are missing? The problem is Christmas is painted as a perfect time, just like a Hallmark movie on steroids. Only problem is life is not a Hallmark movie. We live in an imperfect world with imperfect people and once a year we desperately try to redraw the picture and the people to fit within the lines. And we’re sad when it won’t fit.
………. Maybe the next ten days can be a time to simply enjoy ourselves and our families. All the tasks necessary to have Christmas are complete and if not, that’s OK, Christmas will come anyway. There’s one task remaining, to make sure you tell your loved ones how much they are loved and look into your own heart and remind yourself that you, too, are loved.
I think we could devote ten days to doing that.
