Board member Gerard Spencer was named countywide Coordinator of Safety Services at Monday’s Board of Education Meeting. Spencer will retire from his position as Sargeant on the Weirton Police Force and resign his seat on the Board of Education when he takes the position in three weeks. .Superintendent Dan Enich praised the resource Spencer had been to the Board with his input and knowledge of safety issuese during his term of office.
The Board will select a new Board member to fill the remainder of Spencer’s position.
Six students who were winners in “The Young Writers’ Contest” were recognized with a certificate and a few words from their principal or teacher. Those recognized were Grades 1-2, Quinn Showalter, New Manchester Elementary School; Grades 3-4, Macie Murray, Allison Elementary; Grades 5-6, Chad Ringo, Oak Glen Middle; Grades 7-8, Abigail Glyptis, Weir Middle; Grades 9-10, Kairi Thornberg, Oak Glen High, Grades 11-12, Christian Francis, Oak Glen High.
