….I normally write about what I know. That’s really easy because I have the all the information and know the questions to ask to find out the rest. But, this week I thought I’d write about what I don’t know and need to find out.
…….I don’t know what progress is being made on the New Cumberland hydroelectric plant. I do know the company has gotten a building permit for $1.3 million (the City of New Cumberland realized over $600.00 for that permit.) I’ve called the contacts I have, but have received no response.
…….I don’t know what the status is on the transloader facility is on the property just south of Mountaineer. We were told that the project would get underway when the Mason County plant was operational. I checked the status of the Mason County facility and it appears to be moving.
……….I don’t know how the College of St. Joseph the Worker will pay back the grant they got from the State of West Virginia. The College had already already purchased the old Weir High School downtown for $500,000. The property was owned by Michael Chek, father of County Commission Eron Check. St. Joseph the Worker must still plan to pursue a project in Weirton. The College bought property from the Cove Capital Opportunity Fund for $100,000.00. The Cove Capital Opportunity Fund is located at 337 Penco Road, Weirton and Carl Frankovich is listed as the founding member.
……I don’t know the date the bats have set this fall to depart the Oak tree that can’t be cut down to allow way for demolition of houses and without the demolition of the houses the new road can’t move forward As an endangered specie the ball appears to be in the bats’ court and I would only ask that they issue a press release as they depart.
…..I don’t know yet how Governor Morrisey and the State Board of Education will fare on the matter of mandatory vaccines being required to enter school. The State Board has called upon counties to adhere to the current code allowing for only medical exemptions, but Morrisey keeps talking about religious exemptions. It’s an important issue and we must be clear and consistent statewide.
……..I STILL don’t know how the State of West Virginia went solidly for Pres. Trump in the last general election. I do know, however, that Bernie Sanders had a tremendous turnout in Wheeling for his rally. How could a state whose residents were the impetus for JFK’s war on poverty and who received the first food stamps turn their back on the Democrats still boggles my mind.
…….I don’t know exactly which organization will be the winner of the bid to operate the animal shelter, but I hope whomever it is all the is are dotted and t’s crossed. The bid specs are complicated and every item that has to do with the care of animals will need to be addressed.
…….I don’t know how any citizen of Hancock County can support an organization or person who promotes their political views by denigrating a public official with whom they don’t agree. The cartoon appearing on Facebook demonizing County Commissioner Eron Chek is appalling. Its purpose is to garner support for their objections to Chek’s actions supported by presenting a caricature of her. Those tactics indicate a pretty low standard for dealing with those who differ with you politically.
.….What I do know is that our society allows for open discourse on any issue. It’s so important, however, for that discourse to be on a level that respects each one of us as humans and not sink to the level of demonizing those who disagree with us.
….We are more than that….
