The Hancock County Board of Education will represent the Hancock County Board of Education in a lawsuit being filed against the four major social media companies. The suit alleges that the continued use of social media can be harmful to the mental health of children, especially in their formative years.
The Board voted to hire the Frankovitch law firm after an executive session. Also bidding on the job was the law firm of Rokisky, McCune.
In other business, the Board:
**Heard a presentation on the third grade success act;
**Heard a monthly staffing report from assistant superintendent Dave Smith. There have been no new hires;
**Approved the resignation of Mary Kimberland, countywide substitute teacher; Kayla Rendazzo, PE teacher, Weir Highp
**Granted a leave of absences for Danielle Wood, 1st grade teacher, Weirton Elementary and Shawn Gottardi,, Weirton Elementary;
**Assigned Brian Mihalyo and Grace Taylor substitute teachers, countywide;
**Accepted the resignation of Francesca Capaldi as head boys’ tennis coach;
**Assigned Zackary Warner as assistant wrestling coach and Melissa Bowersox as co-head archery at Oak Glen Middle’
**Assigned Thomas McQillan as assistant wrestling, Weir Middle;
**Granted Ronald Richmond a leave of absence as Custodian IV, Oak Glen Middle and Dorotha Dawson, custodian II, at New Manchester a leave.
