Hancock Board Recognizes Voice of Democracy Winners

Six winners in the Voice of Democracy contest were honored by the Hancock County Board of Education at its regular meeting Monday, January 12. Sponsored by the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars organization in Chester and New Cumberland the contest requires each contestant to submit a recording of a speech. This year’s subject was “How are you showing your patriotism and support of our Country.” Winners divided a prize of $1,700.00 among them.

Winners from the Adam Poe Post 3526 included 1)Kairi Thornberry; 2) Ella Paris; and 3)Rylee Swartzmiller Winners from the Bob Milby Post 6450 included 1)Donna Vasquez; 2) Giada Giambroni; and 3)Jesse Fields.

In other business, the Board:

**Approved a leave of absence for one dock day for Natalie Simich;

**Accepted the coaching resignation of Pat Mascaro and Braden Price as Assistant Football Coaches at Weir High and Scott Pryor as Assistant Football Coaches at Oak Glen High;

****Accepted the resignation of Ricky Coen as Custodian II, New Manchester Elementary;

**Granted a leave of absence for Patrick Speer, Custodian II, Allison Elementary;

**Approved Ricky Coen as a Countywide Substitute Custodian;

**Approved the purchase of new lunch tables that were included in the Bond Levy;

**Received an update on the pyrite project at Oak Glen Middle School.
