The Reading Nook by Kirsten Pierce

We’re so thankful to be back open full time and able to do the things we usually do! It was so nice to have our annual Breakfast with the Easter Bunny Saturday since we had to cancel last year’s. The wonderful people at the New Cumberland VFW always cook the best breakfast for us! The kids enjoyed the story of West Virginia’s Easter Bunny, Tiny, and the visit from the Easter Bunny himself! We ended with an egg hunt in the city park and all of the kids really enjoyed that. It was a beautiful day for it! Around thirty kids and adults attended so it was a great turnout. We’d like to thank everyone at the VFW for taking such great care of us again this year. And thanks to the Easter Bunny for taking time out of his busy schedule to stop in and see us!

Swaney Memorial Library would like to thank Jane, Joyce, and Pam for spending several days organizing our book sale room. They sorted and alphabetized for hours, getting everything set up for the sale. Don’t let all of their hard work go to waste! Everything is $1 or less and we have children’s, young adult, adult, fiction, and non-fiction books, as well as DVD’s. Come in and see what we have!
Our children’s spring story hour has begun and the kids are doing well! Every week they learn how to sign a letter of the alphabet in American Sign Language and they also learn how to sign an animal that starts with that letter. By the time story hour ends in May, they’ll know how to sign the letters A – M, and 13 different animals. We’ll finish letters N – Z in the fall story hour. If you have a child 5 years old or under, it’s not too late to sign them up. We meet at 4:30 every Wednesday.
If you haven’t done your taxes yet, stop in the library and get your state and federal tax forms and instructions. We can also print any additional forms or schedules you might need. As always, we offer fax, copy, and notary services. We have six computers for public use and offer free wi-fi both inside and outside the building. The library is getting expanded broadband services soon and we urge you to utilize them.
As we stated earlier, it’s so nice to be getting back to normal, having programs and seeing everyone in person. We are currently working on plans for our summer reading program, but would love to hear from our community about programs you would like to see happen at Swaney Memorial Library. Let us know what you’d like and we’ll try our best to make it happen. You can stop in and chat with us or call 304-564-3471.
