Your Imagination Station

With Connie & Shauna
Oh My Goodness Ya’ll, what a weekend we just had at Lynn Murray Memorial Library. We held our first annual Seeds & Trees Program, with 29 children and 21 adults in attendance. What a FANTASTIC turn out!! We started our program off by talking about Earth Day and letting everyone know we now have a RECYCLING program here at the library, with the proceeds to benefit the children’s programming. We will accept any paper products, cardboard, and aluminum. Next, the children heard a story about planting seeds, followed by planting some flower and green bean seeds of their very own. Then we moved on to Arbor Day, where Park Ranger/Assistant Superintendent Philip Davis gave a talk about trees. And what do you think we did next? You guessed it, the kiddos planted their own trees, compliments of Mon Power/First Energy. And, as if that wasn’t enough fun already, we moved on to making Bug Houses/Hotels out of all recycled materials. Guess what? Some of the materials used, already had a bug or two in them. The children all went home with their projects and checked out a book or two. We want to thank everyone who came and made our program a HUGE SUCCESS!! Stay tuned to our Facebook page, Lynn Murray Memorial Library, to see all the pics and videos from the event. While you’re there, keep an eye out for all of our upcoming events. You won’t wanna miss ‘em.
So just what are some of the upcoming events, you may wonder? May is going to be full of fun at the library for the kiddos, as May The Fourth Be With You comes around next Tuesday. Bring them in, dressed as their favorite character between 3:30-5:30 for a little Galactic fun. Then, you’ll want to come back on Wednesday the 5th, because it’s Cinco de Mayo and we’ll be celebrating by making maracas. Who doesn’t think that’ll be a fun time? While you’re at it, might as well stop back on Friday the 7th so they can make a special Mother’s Day gift. And here comes the BIG EVENT…..on Saturday the 22nd, we will be celebrating EMS/Paramedics, and Law Enforcement officers. We want to thank all those who serve and protect us every single day. Bring the kiddos out to see an ambulance, a police car and a K9 demo. I told you May was going to be a busy month here at the library. Come, be part of all the fun. Can you “imagine” what might be in store for you in June?
And now for the adults. What is the library doing for YOU? Well, we have a NEW section called Shauna’s Selections. Shauna has set up her very own ‘Librarian’s Choice” of books she thinks ya’ll might enjoy. It may be an author you’ve never read, one that’s highly recommended by our patrons, or even one of her personal favorites. You’ll find them on the back side of the New Release bookshelf, with special tags.
Let’s not forget that we have new LARGE PRINT books available as well as fax, copies, and notary services. Story Hour for children from birth to 5 is every Friday at 1:00.
Until next time…..remember to grab a book and let your imagination take you places you’ve never been.
