Hello, summer! If you stopped in the library lately, you probably thought it was a little warm inside. Our A/C unit broke and has to be completely replaced, so please bear with us as we work to get it fixed!
How are your plants doing with all of this heat? Truth be told, this is the first year I’ve actually watered my outside plants. I usually think they’re self-sufficient once they’re planted outside and they better hope for rain. I know, I know, that’s not what you’re supposed to do. This year though, I water them at least every other day because it’s been so hot. If your plants are in bad shape, or if you just want more, stop in and check out our Free Seed Library. We have a variety of flower and vegetable seeds for free! All we ask is that you harvest the seeds after the growing season and return them to the library so we can give them away again next year.
Thank you to everyone who donates books to the library. We are so thankful to receive so many donations of brand new books by best-selling authors. Whatever we can’t put on the shelf, goes into the book sale and is one of our biggest fundraisers. You can buy adult, young adult, and children’s fiction and non-fiction hardback books for $1, soft covers for $0.50, and paperbacks for $0.25! The only way you could beat that would be to stop in and take advantage of our paperback exchange. You donate paperbacks to us and in exchange you can take that many from us. You can keep them as long as you like. Stop in and see what we have!
Swaney Memorial Library is presenting its summer reading program Tails and Tales this week. Our program runs from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for kids birth through 17. We have very special guests lined up to visit with the kids all week long! But the fun doesn’t stop there! The kids will all receive reading logs and every time they bring their logs back to the library they can pick a prize. At the end of the summer, grand prizes will be awarded to the top readers of each group! If you missed the program, you can still participate! Just ask for a reading log and check out some books!
