OBITUARY: ETHEL MAE WERNER

Ethel Mae Hankey Werner, 105 of Chester passed at the Stone Pear Pavilion on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.

Born in Pittsburgh on August 3, 1916, she was the daughter of  John F. and Pearl Mae MaHaffey Hankey.

A retired restaurateur, Ethel last worked as an assistant manager at the Williams Country Club in Weirton. Earlier, along with her husband, she operated the Fort Pitt Inn in Oakdale, PA., before operating the Carriage House in Greentree, PA. Like most women of that era, Ethel toiled tirelessly at her craft. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting for her family. She graduated from the Miles Bryant High School in McKees Rocks, PA.

Her husband, Fred Werner preceded her in death in 1994. Her brothers, John Hankey Jr, Robert Hankey, and William Hankey, her sisters, Mildred Paulus, and Grace Frank, Betty Kugler, and her son-in-law Frank Lackinger also preceded her.

Ethel leaves her children, Fred (Janet) Werner Jr. of Chester, and Carol Lackinger of Charlotte, NC., her grandchildren, Deanna Newsom, Lori Lackinger, Heide Wright, and Fred Werner, and great-grandchildren, Jessica and Frank Newsom, Tessa, and Libby Werner, and Matt, Gracie, and Sam Wright.

Services will be at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Thursday, December 30, at 6:00 p.m. Evangelist Rico Brown will officiate. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to the service, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Private interment will be Friday at the New Cumberland cemetery.
