CHESTER CITY ELECTIONS JUNE 14

Chester, WV – – The City Elections for Chester will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.  A new mayor, city clerk, and five councilmen are to be elected.  Term of office is four years. As well as a Charter Change Proposal: If successful, this will change the position of Chester City Clerk from an elected position to a career level position within the City of Chester effective July 1, 2026 or when the position becomes vacant, whichever occurs first. 
Filing dates for candidates will begin Tuesday, March 1, 2022 and will be ending on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.  Anyone interested in filing for office is to see the City Clerks Office for a Certificate of Announcement which is to be accompanied by the filing fee.  Candidates for the offices are required to reside within the city limits of Chester and be a minimum of 18 years of age and not be under the conviction of a felony.  
Candidates must also be qualified voters and have resided in the city for at least six months prior to the election.  Candidates for council must run in the ward in which he/she lives.  Candidates are also required to be tax-payers and assessed and/or paid tax on at least $100 worth of real or personal property in said city.  
The City Clerk’s Office is now accepting absentee ballot applications for any military and overseas voters.
