As the City of New Cumberland moves its offices to the new City Building on River Avenue, its previous home gets a new lease on life and its tenants a landlord with New Cumberland’s best interests at heart. Miguel Charnenko of Tampa, Florida purchased the former New Cumberland school at an on-line auction. He and his father purchase buildings for use for storage and rental.
The tenants currently in the building will remain: WVU Extension and 4-H offices and the 1st District Family Court. The Hancock County Commission will also continue to rent storage on the third floor. Miguel said the both the Social Service Food closet and the clothes closet will continue to operate rent free.
The New Cumberland Museum, precious to New Cumberland residents, will continue to be on display on the second floor hall. The project of New Cumberland Community Service Director George Hines the photos and memorabilia lining the walls capture not only the history, but the heart and soul of the town. With the purchase of the building, Miguel said he discovered another treasure in Hines who has proven invaluable in every aspect of the building. Hines will continue to oversee the building, its upkeep and the museum.. Miguel added that they will looking for additional tenants, but will make sure any tenant is in keeping with the best interest of New Cumberland.
