COMMISSION APPROVES SCHOOL BOND LEVY

The Hancock County Commission met Thursday, August 22, 2024 to unanimously approve the placement of the Hancock County School Bond on the 2024 General Election in November.  All three Commissioners voted in the affirmative with Commissioners Eron Check and Paul Cowey participating in person and Commission President Jeff Davis participating telephonically.

The S10,650,000.00 levy was approved unanimously by the School Board at its Monday meeting.  The cost to a homeowner with a home value of $100,000.00 retail value and a $60,000.00 assessed value has a cost of $3.43 per month or   $45.00 per annum.  Finance Director Joe Campanelli stressed that that cost could be lower.

The School Levy was in part necessitated by the discovery of pyrite in Oak Glen Middle School.  The pyrite was causing an area of the school to collapse and become a safety hazard.  Safety enhancements for each of the schools is included to ensure Hancock County students are protected from violence in every way possible.
