…..I had just attended the Hancock County Retired Teachers Luncheon Tuesday where I heard Superintendent Dan Enich inform us what would be included in the School Levy. The importance of the safety aspect was driven home when Shannon called me after she got home from the school where she works in Ohio and told me her school had been on lockdown.
……Made me realize just how important it is that we do everything possible to keep our kids, teachers and school personnel safe.
…..Hancock County is to be commended for giving safety such emphasis. Here’s the list:
***Weapon Detectors at all schools
***Visitor ID System at all schools
***Panic button systems
***Vestibule updates with secure entrances
***Security lighting & fencing
***Replace Fire Alarm Systems
***New and additional Security Cameras
***Safe playgrounds at our 3 elementary schools.
…..State law prohibits administrators or Board members from advocating for passage of a levy. What they can do is educate the public about what is contained in the levy.
……I, however, am bound by no such law, so I would say to the large group of retired educators, “Make sure your neighbor on each side of you votes. Make sure your grown kids and families vote. And, if you see a former student, make sure he/she makes it to the polls on election day. It’s called “Get Out the Vote” and that responsibility falls to each one of us.
