OBITUARY: FRANCES VEAL

Frances A. Veal, 82, of New Cumberland, passed away at her residence on Friday, March 14, 2025. Her flight to Heaven coincided with the Blood Moon celestial event. Born on October 25, 1942, in Beaumont, TX., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Cora Davis DiGeorge. Frances was a graduate of Sulphur High School, Class of 1960 in Louisiana. Her life calling was working with children, and she had a passion for music, playing in Bitter Root’s Old Time Sting Band. She was a Co-founder of the Appalachian Folk Music Club. Frances deeply loved nature and often reminded others to “Take a Minute” to observe and enjoy it. She dedicated herself to preserving the animals and plants on her old farm, recognizing the importance of educating children about nature. She was involved with the Pathways Program at Raccoon State Park and Living History and Primitive Survival Skills. Known affectionately as “Dee” by her grandchildren, she will be treasured and fondly remembered by all her children and grandchildren. Frances is survived by her children, James Christopher Veal of Tallahassee, FL; Jennifer Hardy (Jeff) of New Cumberland, WV; Laura Veal (Jerry Everly) of Georgetown, PA; Jacqueline Bakhos (Joseph) of Big Bear, CA. She is also survived by her soulmate, Chris “Skip” Janke, and his children, Melissa and Cathy; her grandchildren, Travis Veal (Hailey), Tyler Hardy (Brizet), Siera Mallow (Chris), Sophia Felger, Jennifer, Paul, James, Anthony, and Faith Bakhos; her great-grandchildren, Brayden and Bowen Hardy, Luke and Peyton Veal; and her siblings, Frank DiGeorge II (Cindy), David DiGeorge (Jeri), Michael DiGeorge, and Marietta Cryer (Ralph). Frances was preceded in death by her husband, James Veal; son, Mark David Veal; sisters, Cora Blackwell and Cathy Rushing.  In accordance with Frances’s wishes, no services are planned at this time. However, her children are planning a “Celebration Of Life” to-be-determined at a later date. She is in the care of the Arner Funeral Chapel.
