The Summit Art Gallery invites the public to experience Arts and Crafts: Blurring the Lines, a thought provoking group exhibition showcasing eleven regional artists working in craft-based media such as mosaic, needle
felting, stained glass, ceramics, metals, fiber, and found objects.
Curated by artist and educator Georgia Tambasis, the exhibit runs through July 18th, and features the work of Betsy Cox, Jeffery Forster, Timothy Harriman, Hannah Hedrick, Dave Leppar, Kate Marshall, Kelly Messick, Ava Mick, Georgia Tambasis, Lambros Tsuhlares, and Kellie White.
Inspired by Tambasis’ own experiences in mosaic and craft workshops, the exhibition challenges long-held distinctions between “high” and “low” art. The featured artists blur the boundaries between the functional and decorative, the traditional and contemporary. From stained glass vegetables and stainless steel peace signs to needle felted sculptures
and WWII ship replicas made of wood and found materials, each piece tells a compelling story through texture, form, and material.
“The work on display showcases the range of artistic possibilities the exist beyond traditional painting and sculpture,”said Tambasis. “Each artists brings a unique approach that explores unconventional materials and techniques.”
The show is on display during regular gallery hours, Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about the show or other gallery events, contact the Top of WV at 304-797-7001 or email [email protected]
